Book Talk / Listening
Lavender Suarez, aka C. Lavender, is a Berlin-based sound artist, electronic musician, and sound healing practitioner whose work explores the somatic impacts of sound through psychoacoustics, ritual, and embodied listening. Working with synthesizers, percussion, gesture controllers, and spatial audio she creates immersive sonic experiences that engage sound as a deeply physical and transformative force.
Lavender is the author of the critically acclaimed book Transcendent Waves: How Listening Shapes Our Creative Lives (Anthology Editions), a contemplative artist’s workbook exploring how listening can spark creativity, foster self-awareness, and cultivate mindfulness. The book draws on her experience in Deep Listening as an assistant to Pauline Oliveros, her academic background in art therapy, her experiences teaching sound healing and meditation, as well as her work teaching the science of sound to youth communities. Transcendent Waves considers how listening can deepen our connection to the world around us and become an evolving source of creative inspiration.
C. Lavender’s music can be found on the labels Editions Mego, iDEAL Recordings, RVNG Intl., Ecstatic Peace!, and Old Technology among others.
Previously based in New York City, C. Lavender relocated to Berlin in 2026.
Join sound artist, electronic musician, sound healing practitioner, and author Lavender Suarez, aka C. Lavender, for a hybrid book talk and ambient DJ listening session.
Lavender will discuss her critically-acclaimed book Transcendent Waves: How Listening Shapes Our Creative Lives (Anthology Editions), a contemplative artist’s workbook exploring how listening can spark creativity, foster self-awareness, and cultivate mindfulness. Drawing from her background in Deep Listening as an assistant to Pauline Oliveros, her academic background in art therapy, sound healing, and teaching about the science of sound to youth communities; Transcendent Waves considers how listening can deepen our connection to the world around us and become an evolving source of creative inspiration.
The book talk will be participatory, inviting the audience to reflect on their own experiences of listening: What sounds shaped us growing up? What sounds pervade our lives now? What does a day in our life actually sound like? Through shared memories, associations, and observations the audience becomes part of a collective exploration of listening as both a personal and communal practice. The book talk will also incorporate simple and accessible guided meditations centered on listening to help the audience get in the zone and further connect with them with their ears, their mind, and their body.
To conclude the book talk, Lavender will DJ a selection of recent ambient favorites, drawing from the music she regularly shares during her guest appearances on NTS Radio.
