Another week passes and as always, expect open genre variations in our selections.
Rolling through the gorgeous textural ambience + autotune blips of TIBSLC (City of Something) down to the warmly gritty rap & beats album from Wiki (loved by the likes of MIKE and Navy Blue). Then we meet an old but magical harp run masterpiece entitled African Skies, from early days Arkestra member Kelan Phil Cohram. Also featured is a delightful jazz & hip hop album from Sparklmami, for lovers of Live.e, John Carrol Kirby and Solange. What a week of music.

This weeks recomendations are jam-packed with sound goodies, featuring an outstanding return for Tara Clerkin Trio with a mad special jazz infused alternative album entitled Somewhere Good. Another highlight and favourite is Kaiso Power: Sound Revolution in Trinidad with a super (end to end good) Various Artists of  jazz infused calypso grooves from 1970s Trinidad.
Also worth a mention is Pastiche friend Ulla’s label release from J and the Woolen Stars with a gently gorgeous textural ambient piece. A Really special week of music.

Our eclectic record shop features predominantly second hand collections sourced from across the globe. We specialize in open genre music such as: Jazz, Ambient, Electronica, Hip-Hop, Experimental, Music of the World,  Soul, Funk and obscure.

Listening Venue


What is a listening venue?

You can think of it like a seated music venue, with the intention of listening. This seated music venue puts out a carefully curated and unique monthly program of predominantly live music, with occasional selectors. All based on the theme of open genre sounds.
What is the difference between a listening bar and listening venue?

We do not consider ourselves a listening bar. Our focus is predominantly on live musical performances & programming, more like a seated musical venue.
When the show starts there is no talking and the focus is on the show, rather than our bar.
During our events we offer a delicious but simple drinks menu. 

How is the venue setup for an event?

At around 6 pm, we close our record shop and café to the public. From 6 to 8 pm we switch the space into a listening venue setup. In the listening room, we wheel out the individual record shop booths and replace the space with floor seated cushions and tatami mats. The performance booth (on wheels) is then pulled forwards and the sound system is then tuned prior to the performance. Normally between 8.30 and 9.30 our door opens to 40 to 50 guests.
The guest are asked to remove their shoes on entry as a space is a no shoes zone. Our shows generally last until 2330 or midnight.

Build

Our space was built and designed over the course of a year. Blending influences from the old and new, this layout concept was inspired by Japanese Listening Culture, auditoriums, future pop design and spaceships.  


Original design concept by Billy Caso & Martin Herman. Overall space planning & additional concept by Tom Herman (Space & Brand). Furniture modelling & design by Agustin Baztarrica. Main construction by Kai Franz and Fausto.
Sound System

 Pastiche Label was launched in 2020 as a tape only label, but is at the beginning of it’s journey as an all format and open genre focused project.

Billy Caso / Uderon

Follow Billy Caso's open genre exploration with his new limited edition cassette series 'The Planets'.
A conceptual beat-tape & open genre sound collage series moving through a made up universe entitled the 'Exploriverse'. Discover new worlds within this psychedelic jazz and hip hop sound quest.

Episode one reaches Uderon, a grey industrial planet 235,000 light years from home. Find yourself flying into the depths, interrupted by strange local broadcasts and alien announcements. Although some things seem familiar, much is warped and confused in contrast to our ways of living.

Alien Jazz Ensemble / Quiet

Mysterious ambient jazz producer Alien Jazz Ensemble releases their debut album on Pastiche International. Written over the course of 2019 in Berlin and Los Angeles using a combination of vinyl sampling, sequencing and modular synthesis.

Expect lush foaminess met with manipulated clicking brushstrokes and mesmerising melodic frequencies.

Recommended to lovers of Jan Jelinek, Jon Hassell and Pole.
