Midori Hirano
*Live Set / Thrill Jockey

Her latest solo album OTONOMA was released on Thrill Jockey Records in early 2026. The album is a culmination of her previous work as Mimi Cof, combining experiments in electronics and her classical sense of harmony on the piano with the endless textural possibilities of synthesizers. Bandcamp Daily describes it as “Everything on this album is chosen with intention and artistic judgment, everything is fitted together with elegance and musical wisdom.
Midori Hirano is a Japanese musician, composer, and sound artist based in Berlin. Rooted in classical piano and expanded through electronics and field recordings, she creates immersive soundscapes where acoustic intimacy meets experimental abstraction. Her solo albums on labels including Sonic Pieces, Daisart and Dauwhave established her distinctive voice, while her alias Mimi Cof explores more rhythmic and experimental territories. Over time, these approaches have converged into a unified artistic language under her own name. Her work has been presented at venues and festivals including King’s Place, Radialsystem, Silent Green, Bozar Brussels, CTM Festival, L.E.V.Festival, Videodroom and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. She has also collaborated with artists such as Hprizm (Anti Pop Consortium), Ilpo Väisänen (Pan Sonic), CoH, Atsuko Hatano, Brueder Selke and the female collective Monika Werkstatt led by Gudrun Gut.
