S. Fidelity
Live Performance / Album Release of ‘I Guess I’ll Never Learn’
I Guess I’ll Never Learn” is S. Fidelity’s third solo album on Jakarta Records, after“A Safe Place to Be Naked” (2017)and “Fidelity Radio Club” (2021). Heavily rooted in the everevolving tradition of soul and R&B songwriting as well as hip-hop beat making, It’s by far the most complex project of the Swiss-born and Berlin-based artist and producer. On 13 songs, he explores parallels of his artistic practice and romantic relationships. While S. Fidelity sings in his signature mantra-esque style over two songs, the album features anexceptionally diverse cast of singers: Among them, Collard, aclose collaborator of UK pop experimentalists Bakar and Kojey Radical, and Dawn Richard, a multidisciplinary, boundary defying artist from New Orleans who first rose to fame in the mid 2000s as part of the R&B group Danity Kane, only toreinvent herself in recent years as an independent artist, animator and creator, collaborating with Kaytranada, FlyingLotus and Adult Swim. Other guest singers include Jerome Thomas, Raelle, and Wandl. As the album’s producer, S. Fidelity delivers an organic sound, often played on live instruments, by himself and his collaborators like bassist Roman Klobe (of Moses YoofeeTrio), guitarist Alex Cosmo Blake (who wrote songs for Greentea Peng and 6lack), and lo-fi hip-hop icon FloFilz playing the violin. The artist shares his personal thoughts on the process:“The creation of my new album, ‘I Guess I’ll Never Learn,’ fell into a period of realignment. Through this project, I engage in a dialogue between my grown-upand my younger self, questioning and redefining myrole as a partner and as an artist. While working on theproject, I was confronted with questions present in mydecade-long, evolving and growing relationship, andstarted to understand music more and more as aparallel exploration. This album is about staying playful.
